Silicon Valley Season 5 Not Funny

Silicon Valley (TV Series 2014–2019) Poster

eerily funny

Alert: Spoilers

One time when I was starting out every bit a software engineer, I worked for an aerospace company. They paid a lot of money to relocate me to some other urban center but the beginning day I started, the contract I was supposed to work on was canceled and so they told me to sit at a table outside the software development manager'south office until they establish another projection for me. This was before cellphones, and tablets and laptops and by and large desktop computers. I had nothing to practice for a month and when my table was overrun by other engineers in the aforementioned predicament I was ordinarily down at the corporate library because that was the only place with a chair and desk I could sit at. I didn't want to get in appear as if I was useless. I mean, I just moved 2000 miles, so instead of bringing in books to read, I sat there for about a month reading the aforementioned corporate technology manual, over and over and over. After almost a month I was assigned to a projection only things didn't get much meliorate. I found out there was a pecking gild to the programmers according to what their workspace looked like. On budget scraping projects, engineers were typically forced to work in a room without enough chairs or desks. I say desks loosely because sometimes they but had tables, sometimes card tables. Every day information technology was first come, first served. Anyway, the betoken is that we used to refer to a room total of engineers as a bullpen and the work the engineers produced under those conditions, well, bs. When I finally got a cubicle to work in, it was heaven. Fast forward x years and thanks to silicon valley, cubicles became bad and bullpens became good. Some genius figured out how to convince developers to work in a bullpen in lodge to save coin on part article of furniture. And they figured out that they could pay these people less coin if they provided them with free processed food and drinks. Pay them less, and take office of the savings to buy cheap junk food to requite them so you can have away any reason they should be away from their desk or work a normal 8 hour day similar everyone else and go home. That's the software development world for y'all, especially silicon valley. Or, at to the lowest degree the image of silicon valley that everyone tries to reproduce.

I heard near this show several years agone but I didn't want to watch it because I figured information technology would be more bill gates and steve jobs nonsense. There'south a disturbingly big segment of the population that think these guys invented computers. I even read a review recently where this nimrod was thanking bill gates for inventing software. In instance you're misinformed like this twit, no he didn't. Bill didn't invent software and neither of them invented computers either. Whenever I read stuff virtually bill&steve, my head wants to explode, then I thought why hazard a stroke watching a tv prove. I couldn't fifty-fifty make it thru one episode of halt and catch burn, then I figured why waste my time. However, when hbo announced they were streaming the series for gratis I thought okay, I'll spotter one episode.

Software development is boring just information technology has such a diverse group of uniquely disturbing personalities you have to bargain with that it can be extremely funny and also maddening and frustrating which is why I similar this evidence because it captures pretty much all of that. I once had a guy ask me in a phone interview for a task if I liked working with people. I thought it was a trick question then I said sure, I believe a team of people working together tin can ever attain more than than the individual. Okay well, at that place was a long pause on the phone and then this guy said, well, I'1000 non; I'm not a people person. I didn't get the job.

If you're reading this review, yous've probably already watched the show and so I won't recap what the story is virtually or draw the characters. All I can add is that the technobbable, cool plots and twists in each evidence and the characters are hyperboles of the real world but still pretty spot on to the insanity of tech today. There's a few things I would add but every episode is streamed with amazing references and replications to the world I used to piece of work in. I don't know what the background of the writers is only I would notice it hard to believe that this isn't inspired and directed by people in the biz. They've nailed information technology all and hit on a whole bunch of idiosyncratic pimples and nuances. Like, "he's a coder". I don't know if the general public gets it merely that's funny. Software developers write code for a living but people who write a lot of code are often looked downwardly on especially if information technology's in lesser revered languages, similar scripting languages. A lot of times the more lawmaking you tin can write in the least amount of fourth dimension, the more yous're looked downward upon by other developers. It'south like a carpenter who uses too much wood to frame a house. Everybody knows you only need and then much woods and so many nails. Annihilation over that means you're useless.

And the episode near 'spaces' vs 'tabs'. That's also spot on. I've seen developers throw sissy fits over fashion problems and other innane topics. In the c++ world, it's even more than farthermost. There's two types of c++ programmers. Those that are applied and take a life outside work and those that are purists and call back all code should compile without errors and warnings and if it doesn't, your code sucks and you don't know your asterisk from a period. Co-ordinate to them, your code is a ticking time flop ready to turn that $150 1000000 mars lander into space junk.

Anyway, imho, the show is bright. If yous're not in the biz and don't go all the jokes, it doesn't matter. It'south non your mistake. You're probably better off anyway. If you're in the biz, there should be something there for anybody. If non, mayhap the joke is on you. Think about it.

Hilarious and Scathing

Silicon Valley is a Television set show that was much talked near even before it'southward debut on HBO. With the Silicon Valley at present finding a Hollywood-like temper in the style it's viewed, the entertainment industry'southward focus on Silicon Valley and it's unique lifestyle and culture is somewhat new and has still to find it's equilibrium of representation between the reality of the innovation happening in that location and the baroque, one-act ammunition that lies in some of the more eccentric aspects. Mike Judge'south Silicon Valley is a damn good first. It's witty and scathing, and takes an sarcastic approach to it with an outsider's eye. Of form, Mike Estimate is no outsider, having worked in Palo Alto during the belatedly fourscore's, and his disdain for it'south people and culture shows.

What makes the serial work is that Judge is able to focus on all the small, ridiculous things that accept become such an icon of the culture. From CEO's innovators with Christ-like followings, to the thought that the manufacture is somehow spearheaded by college dropouts, Judge wastes non time and has no problem putting every Silicon Valley cliché/reality on a pedestal for people to express mirth at. Equally a native, I can say that the show does exaggerate a lot of things, but it also gets a lot right. If you've seen Estimate'due south other work, then you will chop-chop meet how well this fits in. With Beavis and Butthead, nosotros got a critique about the stupidity and waste of a generation, with Rex of the Hill, we got a look at Approximate'south insight into Texas civilization and the ideologies of an American culture trying to cope with the changes of a modern world, and hither we take a completely new sub-culture that Judges dives head commencement into.

The evidence virtually certainly has it'due south falls, but I was hard pressed to find them as I was likewise busy laughing most of the time throughout. I may have a skewed view of the show, with me observing this through a filter of the real Silicon Valley, in all it'south groovy and weirdness. But in general, this bites down hard in the most hilarious style on a truly unique and adequately bizarre place in the globe. And you don't even accept to know the technobabble being spit out. I do recall HBO has another winner here.

One of the All-time Idiot box Comedies

When information technology comes to Comedy on tv set, people seem to flock back to classics like Friends or Seinfeld. Before Netflix took over the industry, HBO held the standard for ane of the greatest ways to watch new shows. They have proven time and time again that their content is of the highest value. For the virtually part, every fourth dimension I offset a new show distributed by HBO, I detect myself hooked and eager to see more. Recently ended, I discovered the show Silicon Valley about a twelvemonth ago and it rapidly became one of my favourite shows. Here'southward why, if you lot haven't had the chance to watch information technology, y'all absolutely should.

Silicon Valley is pretty much an R-Rated, raunchy version of the picture show The Social Network. The series follows Richard Hendricks and his group of intelligent friends, as they develop a new company in Pied Piper. With the proper noun of the company being the butt of many jokes itself, this series sets itself up to make you express joy right off the bat. The story does dive deep into the technology world and becomes interesting and frustratingly honest every bit the series progresses, but if information technology wasn't for how great this entire bandage was, it wouldn't accept been as entertaining.

Thomas Middleditch as Richard feels very reminiscent of Jesse Eisenberg's iteration of Marking Zuckerberg in The Social Network, which also happens to be i of my favourite films of all time, and so information technology was kind of hard for me to dislike. Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, and Zach Woods all steal the bear witness on multiple occasions, but the highlight of the entire series for me came with the grapheme of Nelson Bighetti (Big Head). Without ruining information technology for anyone, he is a character who is every bit impaired equally a brick and he knows information technology, but somehow becomes more successful than anyone else in the series. Everything only kind of falls into his lap and there were times where I was laughing with this character to no end. Silicon Valley features one of my favourite supporting characters of all time in 'Big Caput'.

There are a few jarring moments when some of the seasons brainstorm and end, simply due to the fact that this show had to deal with some behind-the-scenes drama on multiple occasions. From a principal supporting player in the first season passing abroad in real life to needing to write T.J. Miller off the show when his grapheme was the reason any of these guys had a place to work in the first place, I was rolling my optics a couple of times, admittedly. Other than the odd choices they fabricated to work effectually these elements, this is one of the greatest Comedy-based television shows I've seen in a very long time.

In the end, Silicon Valley is a very smart, yet hilarious series that never overstays its welcome. Although still groovy, you could feel it losing steam somewhere betwixt season four and five, so it felt natural when a sixth season, consisting of just seven episodes, wrapped everything up. This testify besides has a very surprising finale that I had to applaud them for. With the style this show progresses, I never would've expected it to terminate the manner that it did, but I got a kicking out of it and information technology felt fresh. Overall, aside from a few bumps in the road in terms of product, this is easily i of my favourite shows. Through all its dryness and sarcasm, Silicon Valley is not one to miss. Coming to an end just a few months agone, the full series is now available.

Piece of cake watch , addictive and actually wholesome and funny

Deserves almost a viii.vii . Actually flows well , creates a good sense of accomplishment as the story progresses . Likeable characters , unpredictable funny jokes and moments (which is hard to notice at present a days ) . I also like that the episodes are 30 minutes , they go on it curt enough to not make information technology too focussed on story however long enough to not make information technology experience rushed and over filled with i liners. Overall a actually like shooting fish in a barrel lookout as it doesn't require a lot of focus like other hbo shows , and it flows so easy that it becomes addictive every bit others take mentioned and has a sure likeablity that brings information technology together without forcefulness .

Considering all the 6 seasons it's a solid 8/x

It could accept been a nine or even a ten, just it lacks of character development and tends to echo itself. Don't become me wrong. The characters (especially the duo Gilfoyle-Dinesh) are extraordinary and well depicted, only they don't grow along the episodes. They are somehow glued to a repetitive story format. Richard is a magnet for issues and akward situations, Gilfoyle is the clever and cynical genius, Dinesh is Gilfoyle's perfect counterweight, Erlich has some rare lucid moments and becomes annoying by smoking from his pot, Jared is the expert samaritan "having sex activity" ... Despite those two negative points, this is an intelligent warm television set-show with a gorgeous and humorous venture of an Information technology company In conclusion: If you have always worked for an IT company yous volition definitely enyoj watching it.

Best Comedy CURRENTLY Ambulation on Idiot box

I was a trivial skeptical about this show at starting time and went into with the impression that I would effort it but information technology would lose my interest later on an episode or two. This bear witness and then far has been a wonderful surprise. Unlike some comedies that create forced, bad-mannered situations that are but funny to the recorded laugh runway that plays, I have burst out laughing from a number of scenes that accept aired in the few episodes so far. Information technology is very original, smart, has a conceivable story and characters and has many funny moments with quite a few scenes that volition catch you off baby-sit and you will die laughing. At outset this was but a show I was DVR'ing so watching at some point during the week maybe a few days later. Even so the concluding few episodes accept been great and I accept been watching alive while it airs because it isn't a stupid comedy, it keeps you interested with a pretty practiced story.

Cracking comedy that works as a drama too

Working out of a shared firm in San Francisco, Richard Hendricks and his team are working on creating revolutionary technology. Merely beginning he and his company, Pied Piper, demand to navigate the maze of hurdles, back-stabbings and setbacks systemic to technology starting time-ups, some of which come from competitors but many come from trusted sources.

Great Television receiver serial. The comedy is fresh, uncompromising and original and often satirises the technology industry. Some great in-jokes and cocky-deprecating humour.

More merely a comedy, the series works as a drama too. The Pied Piper story arc could be many technology get-go-ups, showing their ascent, their problems in getting off the ground, the attempts by established competition to brand them fail, the technology problems, the innovative solutions, the breakthrough moments, the e'er-present run a risk of failure.

Centrolineal with this, the technology is very believable: the writers hired applied science professors and other experts to aid advise them on sure aspects of the plot.

This all said, the series does lose steam after well-nigh three seasons. The jokes become a bit repetitive and stale and the plot feels less original. Nonetheless reasonably interesting, just not as practiced as the earlier stuff.

Season ratings: S1 10/10, S2-three 9/10, S4-6: 7/x

So much funnier than I idea it would be!

Silicon Valley was then much funnier that I originally thought it would exist! I never watched it when information technology was originally on but recently I idea I'd give information technology a risk afterwards hearing about how good it was for years. I'thousand glad I did! Information technology had a perfect bandage that made this one of the funnier and more than underrated tv shows HBO has ever created. Every episode will continue you laughing as much as the previous ones!

Fantastic just gets repetitive in Seasons 4 and v

Truly a one of a kind, with snappy dialogue and great characters charting the pitfalls of get-go ups in the new tech boom. No 1 else does it like this.

Having said that, I establish the bumbling idiocy of the master character Richard to exist rather irritating and repetitive by the time Season 4 and 5 came around. The show revolves around the scrapes that he gets them into and it just gets a fleck abrasive after a while that he keeps making like mistakes. Ricky Gervais has the right idea that's for sure...

fun with heart

Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch), Nelson 'Large Caput' Bighetti (Josh Brener), Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr), and Dinesh Chugtai (Kumail Nanjiani) are poor working programmers struggling to build the side by side big thing, Piped Pipper. Erlich Bachman (T.J. Miller) is the arrogant homeowner who sees himself every bit incubator for new programmers with ten% interest. Richard and Big Caput's day task is working for Hooli nether self-important CEO Gavin Belson (Matt Ross). Monica Hall (Amanda Crew) works for VC Peter Gregory and subsequently awkwardly cold Laurie Bream (Suzanne Cryer). Donald 'Jared' Dunn (Zach Woods) realizes the potential of Piped Pipper and shows it to Gavin Belson.

This is a fun prove well-nigh the new Titans and the new Greek tragedies. These are flawed withal loveable characters. Middleditch portrays Richard's self doubt and insistent vision perfectly. Gilfoyle and Dinesh are a perfect comedy duo. It's a new world and nosotros're just living in it. Other than a minor road bump that is T.J. Miller's personal problem, Mike Gauge has created the next Office Space.

Excellent tv show

One of the telly show which showcases verbal scenes from the tech earth. Greatly written story about the real life tech world. All the storylines are perfect on how the techies face problems in real life and the issues the tech entrepreneurs would confront in the real life. Fine performances by the actors mainly Middleditch. Along with the cognition content in the story it likewise equally has dainty comedy timing and humour.

This show is smart

I really don't like other HBO Comedies like Girls and Looking. I heard about this show and I'grand a programmer myself so i idea i volition requite it a take a chance and I'k not disappointed.

The pilot was great and SMART, the lines were groovy and performances were all terrific.

All the characters were kind of cool and i'm looking forrad to see them over again. The characters are conceivable and may exist in the existent world. I tin't wait for next episodes. i recommend it to all of you lot. Watch information technology and i don't think you'll be disappointed.

Smart and funny satire of the tech / start-up globe

If you work or take worked in tech or in whatsoever start-up surround, or are curious to know, y'all'll love it! The representation of what really happens behind the scenes of this "trendy" manufacture is and so accurate, smart and funny.

I wish they would accept gone further and bolder with the main story. Even so, information technology is a fantastic tv show!

Dark, Intelligent Humor and Fantastic Characters

I turned this down when it first came out, like a venture backer passing on a promising outset-up. I didn't give it much of a chance because I think that I probably watched five whole minutes before turning information technology off, for whatever reason I had way back then. My blood brother recently binged the entire serial and told me that I needed to requite it another try.

I'k not afraid to acknowledge when I'm wrong, I actually love it when I'1000 wrong. In this case, being wrong meant that I waited until the series had wrapped and I didn't accept to await effectually to spotter episodes week-to-week like an animal, as they make you do on the network that put this out. And then, I won.

Every grapheme (except one) is a scream. They could all (except ane) walk off this and have their ain series.

Of class, Gilfoyle has nearly all of the best jokes. Who could better evangelize the darkest of dark humor than a devout Satanist? Take him out of the script, forth with all of his lines, and you'd have, I don't know, some crappy show like Friends of whatsoever. Imagine Friends with lines like, "If my female parent were naked and dead in the street, I would non encompass her with that jacket."

Baghead is funny in a very unlike sort of way. He's similar the nigh existential human being being e'er portrayed on screen. That's what he brings. Just that. That's huge.

Jian Yang is goofiest stereotype of a Chinese person ever put on motion-picture show. It's not racist or bigoted because he's freaking cool. Menses. He should accept his ain series.

It's Richard I can live without. I don't like his character and he'southward never fun to spotter with all of his "I Honey Lucy" situation comedy baloney. The terminate of the serial was a huge disappointment, especially considering how great the rest of it was. The terminal gag with looking for his pen bulldoze in yet another "I Love Lucy" gag.

Best comedy in contempo days

All-time one-act series since the golden sit down com-days of the xc'due south. The everyday struggles for the unfortunate techboys in Pied Piper is simply hilarious fun through all seasons with some super funny guest appearances and supporting roles. This is one that could have went on for some more seasons if y'all ask me.

Asbolutely must watch for anyone in the tech manufacture

True to its name, the show perfectly encases the tech industry and its heart, Silicon Valley. The jokes are brilliantly executed, and it'southward astonishing how existent this show can be at times. Silicon Valley is a great show to rampage if yous're in the tech industry or are planning to bring together shortly!

Best Comedy Ever

I honestly thought that this show is the best comedy of all fourth dimension. I dearest every grapheme in this show, it was hilarious, exactly what I'd come to look in HBO, even exceeding expectations. The plot in this show is also very intriguing, definitely the best plot I've ever seen in a comedy serie. I love every flake of this bear witness and I highly recommend everyone to watch information technology, the humor is definitely non for anybody but yous will know very early if you likes this i or not.

Wasn't perfect but nearly that

I found this show very funny. And delightfully enjoyable when information technology's not. I don't retrieve there were a single moment where I thought information technology was boring except... well, when they got to season 5 they made some minor changes and I didn't like that. But the show was stiff enough to carry on. The existent trouble actually started to announced during the early episodes of season 6. They were the kind of episodes that solely exist to make upcoming episodes to brand sense, y'all know? Heck, the ending was satisfying but on my second run I realized it wasn't funny or enjoyable. I guess season half dozen was a flake of let down merely overall I loved it.

Potential for and so much better

I just Love virtually of the characters. There is and then much proficient stuff going on, simply every episode ends the same. Here nosotros get. EPISODE #? - EVERYTHING IS GOING Groovy WITH PIED PIPER. - EPISODE#?, 'later 40 minutes, the visitor is worth ????? meg, and goose egg could be better. - Until - 43 minutes, by some strange twist, everything has fallen autonomously, and the company has gone to the dogs. - AGAIN! How long can this story proceed? It is only far to predictable. There are but always two different scenarios for every episode. - Either the company and everyone is multi, multi millionaires, or they have not got a pot to piddle in.

very very funny very very "elementary" original and skillful...

Many sometimes feel intimated from watching series similar this that focus on technology and the very very new ideas and.... While right now it's by and large the older among us even so.... You should know that the series is very very simple to sympathise even for people coming from no technological background....

In short.... I don't take much to say it's skilful it's funny it'south unique it'due south............ You should watch it.... great uncomplicated writing... Minimalist in many ways... And withal with lots of plots twists "kind of humor"... u know... with evrything allways changing going right going wrong... you lot sohlud watch.... as simple as that.... very very well done...

Worthy of A Review

I accept been a member of IMDb for many many years now and am a big movie and Tv set enthusiast. That said, until at present, not one time accept I felt the need to type up a review.

Silicon Valley if peradventure the funniest show I have seen, ever. The writing is thoughtful, with perfect comedic timing. The just word to describe the characters is awesome. They all work and then well together that the comedy flows effortlessly.

I am surprised to run across that this bear witness is coming from HBO. I would expect a prove like this from Netflix only non HBO. But I must commend them because they hit this one out the park. I look forrad to what I hope volition be a long lasting serial with many more seasons to come.

Yous tin see from my profile that I have been a fellow member here for many years and take non ever written a single review, so you lot tin exist assured that what I say is true. If yous oasis't seen Silicon Valley you are missing out. Go cheque it out!

Hilarious

As a programmer and an app entrepreneur myself I absolutely liked the starting time 2 episodes so far. I hope this will be a corking series overall.

Btw I also like other Mike Judge's works: the Beavis & Butthead drawing serial and the Idiocracy movie.

I've never been to California and never worked for Google or Apple but I know this western IT civilisation pretty well, and the series makes good laugh of information technology. The main character should have taken ten million :) Now the whole series will be about how he gets trampled over and over past the vultures of capitalism. Should be fun to watch.

On a side note, information technology's dandy to meet movies finally catching up with the new realities of life. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram - these words now play a vital role in lives of the vast share of the world's population, but pic directors take been far from these areas until now. Good work Mike, continue information technology coming! :)

One of my few IMDB reviews

I barely write reviews on IMDB, so this displays the consequence this bear witness had on me.

Information technology has been by far my favourite TV comedy to date. The ending got me good and I was nigh vehement. I laughed every episode and the merely thing which stopped me from watching every episode non-finish was the lame human being needs to eat and sleep.

I finished the season in 2 weeks and now I feel empty... I might rewatch information technology.
